In the bustling streets of Dhanbad, amidst the coal dust and laughter of children, lies a silent struggle that threatens to dim the bright futures of our community's youth. Meet Rajesh, a hardworking father of three, whose daily toil in the coal mines is met with the anguish of returning home to a family deprived of clean water.
More than 10 lakh people, in families like Rajesh, in the Jharia-Dhanbad belt hear the echoing story of such a parched land and water scarcity, especially when the sun is at its hottest in the summer season. Water is not just inconvenient, but it is a survival battle in day-to-day life.
Imagine the desperation of mothers, such as Priya who walk some distance to fetch water for children to drink that is poisoned to kill, threatening lives and health conditions. Seeping into it are by-products of water pollutants used for coal mining activities- respiratory disorders and skin diseases among other more health-related ailments in a community setting.
But amidst all the crisis, there shines a ray of hope - the Sahadeva Foundation. We don't let thirst take away dignity from families like Rajesh's. Our initiative looks to provide clean water solutions, starting with building in-house tanks in the most affected regions. The filled tanks by water tankers will ensure that fresh clean water is at every doorstep of a family.
Last summer, with the help of empathetic donors, we supplied 200 drinking water bottles per day and relieved 300 families who were in dire shortage. However, this is just a short-term solution. We are determined to create lasting change by building sustainable water infrastructure for 50-60 families, which will eventually benefit nearly 500 people.
